Social Media the Introverts way!

Introverts can be authentic on social media while being true to their shy nature.

I had the pleasure of giving a talk on Social Media for Introverts recently. It was so much fun sharing tips that I have learned the hard way. My aim is to make it easier for introverts to share their message on social media in a way that feels comfortable and authentic to who they are.

There are lots of examples of how to show up on social media if you are an extrovert, but I have found very few that appeal to my shyness and unwillingness to be an open book to the world on social media. If that sounds like you… keep reading for tips!

Be AUTHENTIC. Know what makes your brand and you different from those that do something similar. What do your customers like about YOU? Why do they buy from you and not someone else? Don’t copy others – be the YOU that your customers want and are looking for!

Be ORIGINAL. Make a list of the things that make you unique. What are your hobbies or weekend activities? Who is your favorite sporting team? Do you participate in any volunteer activities? What do you like to do on the weekends when you aren’t working? Do you have pets? Do you have a family? What is your favorite way to spend free time?

CONNECT with your PEEPS. You don’t need to appeal to everyone that could use your products or services. Focus on your audience and understand what it is they want and how best you can serve them. Don’t sell all the time; instead share helpful information that will make their life or business easier and share in bite-size chunks that are easily implemented.

STAY out of OVERWHELM. It’s easy to attempt to do too much too quickly and fail miserably. Believe me, I’ve been there and so have my clients. Choose one thing to focus on and do that until it becomes more routine. Then move on to the next thing on the list. It doesn’t have to be hard ALL the time!

CREATE BOUNDARIES. I don’t know about you but when I think I can tackle everything at once it is a recipe for disaster. What is the ONE thing that you can implement now that will make things easier? It could be scheduling blocks of time (20 minutes) each week to devote to social media and doing it. Imagine how much better you will feel. I try to get off social media by 8 pm so I can do things that are nourishing for me.

NOURISH ME.  At the end of the day, what I really look forward to is taking a break from the day and being still. Being quiet helps me to reset my day and get ready for the night. It could be reading my favorite book or going to bed early. Know what nourishes you and do something every day.

Be CONFIDENT. Be YOU, don’t copy someone else. Your customers want you. Let the YOU shine through. By being someone else, you will never have the satisfaction of connecting with your ideal peeps.

Which one of these will you try this week? I would love to hear!
